December Energy and Gas Market Update

In November electricity and gas prices have stabilised as a result of the greater gas volumes directed toward the domestic market. It seems that Malcolm Turnbull’s meeting with gas producers had a positive result, at least in short term. The gas prices have softened up since June and in turn made a positive impact on wholesale electricity prices, however gas is still more expensive than what customers were paying in June 2016 and the risk of blackouts this summer is still present.

Victoria remains the second most expensive state in NEM. The expectation is that SME price increases would following the wholesale market and would be similar to NSW price increases which took place in July this year (15%-20%)….
