Market Updates Q2-20

Aug 04, 2020

Wholesale electricity prices in Victoria have increased temporarily in early Q2-20 but came back down to previous levels at the end of the quarter, while Qld and NSW prices continued their steady decline. We expect that prices will fluctuate around the current price levels until lifting of the COVID-19 restriction. Energy Intelligence still views current electricity prices as a buying opportunity.

We recommend all customers with electricity contracts expiring in 2020 or in 2021 to start procurement processes as soon as possible. We expect prices to start increasing closer to the summer and/or as soon as the COVID-19 restrictions end.

Customers with gas contracts expiring this year are recommended to start the procurement process now. However, customers with gas contracts expiring next year are recommended to observe the market and prepare to procure before the end of this year.
