Market Update

May 21, 2018

Since the beginning of 2018 the Cal-19 and Cal-20 wholesale energy prices have been trending lower with an exception of few spikes in January and February as a result of high temperatures. At the moment the wholesale electricity prices continue trending lower and are the lowest since the closure of Hazelwood power station.

Victoria remains the second most expensive state in NEM in terms of electricity prices. Although the prices were decreasing steadily for the last few months, it is not sure how long this trend would continue. Premier Daniel Andrews has advised that the state government would be installing large battery storage similar to SA before summer 2019 which hopefully will result in further price reductions.
